NOTE: The 1 1/8″ to 1″ Step-Down headset allows you to use a 1″ fork and stem on a frame with a 1 1/8″ integrated headtube.  Many frames such as Chase, Supercross and Intense use a 1 1/8″ head tube even on the small frames so this type of headset is required for use with 1″ forks. Basically, it uses 1 1/8″ bearings to fit into the frame while the inner sleeve is made to fit 1″ forks.
